Marie Gaudette came to Girl Scouting in 1925, first as a teacher of nature in leadership courses, then as a Troop Leader, and a Nature Counselor at camp. She soon resigned as Director of the Roger William’s Natural History Museum in Providence to serve on the staff of Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, and later as the Council’s Executive Director.

In 1935, Marie joined the Girl Scout national staff as Nature Advisor. She became one of its best known and beloved members through her writings, her training at Macy and elsewhere, her talks to Girl Scouts all over the country. She had a rare gift of making people want to learn. Long before learning-by-doing methods gained a wide following, she used it joyously and successfully.
