Mae’s membership in Girl Scouting began in 1946 when she became a leader of an Intermediate troop and a trainer in the former Warwick Council.

She was always an enthusiastic outdoor person and camper. She was a member of the former Region I Camp Committee, and later chair of the Program and Camping Committee for GSRI.

She served variously as a troop consultant, a trainer, a day camp staff person at Nokewa, a Member-at-Large on the GSRI Board of Directors, and President from 1968-1974. She served on the Finance Committee for many years, and was named a life-long Honorary Member of the Board.

Mae and her husband Jack (a “special services” Girl Scout) spend hours and days helping to develop and maintain Camp Nokewa (North Kingstown, East Greenwich, Warwick), which had been acquired in 1962 from the former Warwick Council. He found Indian arrow heads and followed her directions: “Jack, the girls need a flagpole,” and it was done with help from his friends.
