Kate Simpson established herself in Girl Scouting some years ago in a leadership role with adults.

In 1980, Kate was nominated as Neighborhood Chairperson, a position which she held for many years. Subsequently she was elected to the Council Nominating Committee. After serving for 2 years, she was appointed Chair and in this capacity became an Ex-Officio Member of the Board of Directors.

As a board member, Kate was selected to serve on the Membership Outreach Committee, charged with both annual and triennial minority audits required by the Girl Scouts of the USA. Kate clearly has a personal concern for, and ability to interact comfortably and openly with persons of all racial, ethnic, religious, and economic circumstances.

In 1992, Kate was elected to be President of the council. She was the first professional career person asked to serve in this position. During her 6 years as President, the Board of Directors worked very hard on meeting the minority needs of the council. Kate was also recognized for her spiritual quality which was noticeable in the openings and closings she presented at council meetings, as well as for her enthusiasm and exceptional presence at the podium.
