A native of Westerly, Rhode Island, Betty has been a longtime Girl Scout, both as a girl and adult. She earned the highest girl award, the Curved Bar.

Later she served as an Assistant Leader and Leader of a Brownie Troop, a Troop Organizer, and a Neighborhood Chairman.

At GSRI Council level, Betty was a Trainer of Brownie Leaders and of Service Teams. She served as President, Vice President, Chair of the 1984 council evaluation, Chair of three statewide County Fairs and of the statewide event for the 85th Anniversary of GSUSA. She served as Chair of the Museum Task Group from its inception, a member of the nominating committee in 1998 and a long-term member of the Finance Committee.

Nationally, Betty was a National Council Delegate three times, a National Trainer, and a member of the Evaluation Team for GSUSA. “I could not live long enough to repay Girl Scouts for the benefits I received as a girl.”

Honors: Thanks Badge (1984), Thanks Badge II (1995), Partner in Philanthropy (1997) and the Mira Hoffman Award (1998).
