Following her graduation from Marietta College in 1941, she worked at Pratt Whitney Aircraft Plant as an Industrial Chemist. She then served in World War II as a Lt. (J4) Flight Navigator in the United States Navy from 1943-46.

Whit began her Girl Scout career as a District Advisor in the Akron, Ohio council. She returned to Hoffman as a Waterfront Director in 1948. During her professional career, Whit served as Executive Director for the Torrington, Connecticut Council and for the Abnaki council in Maine. She was a member of the Girl Scout National Staff from 1955 until 1962; first as a Camping Advisor for councils in the New England region and then at National Headquarters in New York as a Field Service Analysts and Administrator in the Field Operations Department. After retirement, Whit moved to Rhode Island, where she assisted part-time in the Properties Department from the day GSRI moved to its present headquarters until her death in 1984.

Whit was known to many Girl Scout council camp committees as one of the most knowledgeable national specialists in the field of camping, and by her Rhode Island associates for her kindness and helpfulness and her flower gardening in the office window boxes.
