2 1 Different from previous years, having a combined SEW gave the students a chance to connect with students from different grades. This emphasized the idea of being one big community and the theme “Reign” by focusing on service. Hannah Kim, junior, said it was different participating in activities with the younger students, but after complet- ing the activity she felt “good” serving with them and she was “glad” she was able to interact with elementary students because it forms a united community. “Part of experiencing God’s reign in our lives is embracing community.” Mr. Eddie Lozano, Student Minister said, “So if God reigns in my life and if God reigns here in GSIS, we should try to be a community that is united. One way to be united is to serve elementary.” To serve the elementary students, secondary students spent time with them participating in various activities such as reading books, picking up trash, and painting. Through these activities, stu- dents were able to break the age barrier and act as one community. Yerin Choi, sophomore, said “I think it was a very good opportunity for the upperclassmen to interact with the elementary students. Even though there is an age gap, it was still fantastic for us to get to know more about them.” Experimenting with this new activity, Mr. Lozano mentioned, “I’d like to do it again. I think what I want us to gain is this idea we are one community and one school. Even if it’s rare occasions, where we get together, we need to take care of this advantage to help each other and to love each other.” 89% Students were spiritually impacted and transformed by SEW 25 students surveyed 62 Fall Events
