The final score was a 1-0 win, the goal scored by Clara Shin, sophomore. “We were able to face them by working hard and even though there were some balls that were really bad, we beat them,” said Clara. Including the coaches, all the players agreed KIS was the biggest championship contender, winning only a further secured higher placing in the division. “They didn’t get many shots on us and I think we had more shot opportunities than they did,” said Alex Yoo, senior. Eventually, after an even first half, the ball went in the net and “everyone cheered on the bench and on the field.” “When we beat KIS this year, I think that’s the first time seeing him really smile during a game,” Alex commented, speak- ing of Coach Harding’s reaction. Mr. Harding reflected on his time at GSIS, “I enjoyed the fight, the tenacity, the grit of the girl’s team where they’ve always fought through, not only injuries, but fought through the perception that soccer isn’t a girls sport. Fought through the perception of their parents’ thinking soccer isn’t a girls sport.” “When I was thinking over the summer about leaving GSIS. It was the only thing, that made me reconsider my decision, it was the girl’s soccer team. And the eight years that I have put in with them. And leaving the juniors and the sophomores and the freshmen knowing that I won’t be able to see them finish out their careers. That was the hardest part, for me.” In the second away game against KIS, the girls brought in a 4-2 win to become the conference champions. 3 1 2 4 5 6 Top Row: Coach Harding, Jenny Lee, Haijin Park, Clara Shin, Carrie Jung, Coach Francois, Coach Kim; Middle Row: Cindy Jung, Olena Vasyltova, Nicole Eggens, Sophia Lee, Grace Lee, Monica Park, Alex Yoo; Bottom Row: Susan Park, Kylie Hur, Sarah Kim, Lucy Jung, Hannah Kim, Erin Ryu, Yerin Choi 135
