Girls Varsity Tennis

Through perseverance , dedication , and hard work , the girls varsity team overcame every challenge that came their way . Their positivity and strong focus guided them to their first ever conference championship . Lindsey Choi , junior , commented on her responsibility as a captain . She also described their challenges as both physical and mental .

# BE _ UNBEATABLE

“ I had to maintain a strong mental focus , regardless of my opponent or condition .”
“ PLAYING TENNIS AFFECTS ME BY TESTING MY DISCIPLINE , PATIENCE ,
AND MENTAL FOCUS . AS A
CAPTAIN , I HAD TO BE ABLE TO ENCOURAGE MY TEAMMATES AND BE A STRONG AND EFFECTIVE ROLE MODEL FOR THEM ” - LINDSEY CHOI
Girls had especially long matches and experienced multiple tiebreakers . One unique aspect of the season was each girl had to play at least one tiebreaker . Coach Muus emphasized how playing under the pressure of tiebreakers were a crucial factor to their final victory to win first in conference . She explained the mentally demanding matches made the girls stronger and improved their endurance . Perhaps , the girls ’ greatest achievements is they were able to develop two totally new tennis players into conference champions . Jaipriya Gupta who was one of the new players said she was a “ complete beginner ” before the tryout but she was able to improve by the “ help and guidance ” of her coach and teammates . Coach Muus said she watched the girls start from learning how to hit properly to being able to be competitive and eventually watched them become seated Number one in each of their brackets .
“ I ’ m just really proud of all the work that the girls put in because it was definitely the effort of the whole team . Everybody put in their time and effort and all worked really hard .”
Despite how great the feats reached by the girls were , the girls did not undergo extra intensive training . “ We didn ’ t have a lot of special things we did . It just was a lot of working hard . They came to practice , they had to do their warm up drills and we spent a lot of time working on our serves and receiving ,” said Coach Muus .
