Soccer
Kenjin Dong winds up to kick the ball out
of his opponent, SIS Tigers, way. The ball
successfully traveled far from the goal.
Kenjin’s clearance brought his team-
mates closer to the opponent’s goal,
giving them a chance for a shot.
During the first Quarter, the elementary soccer team
worked hard on developing teamwork by practicing two days
a week. As they practiced, the soccer team improved, and
their friendship got stronger. Their idea of friendship is all dif-
ferent, but they agree teamwork is the most important aspect
in soccer.
Ruimin Wu explained, soccer is important for making
friendships, “Everybody makes friends because soccer is a fun
sport.” Ruimin also encouraged his team members to laugh
when they make a mistake and learn to become more than
just partners, but best friends.
Rishy Rajkumar believes teamwork is key to getting along
with others and said, “without teamwork we would fight, we
would not pass ,and we would not have sportsmanship”.
Nirupam Maheshwari, had first hand experience with
learning the importance of teamwork. He described an event
when he was on the soccer field and the team was playing
fast and “the goalie got confused.” Nirupam realized he and
his teammates were not working as a team. “We thought that
76
we would make a great team, but without teamwork, we are
just plain old people. Without teamwork, we would just
lose.”
For Anant Agarwal who was part of the soccer skill
practice, but not a part of season’s team, he agreed
teamwork is an important aspect of soccer. “ If there
is no teamwork, you can’t score a goal. It is basical-
ly being selfish if there is no teamwork. It is just
you and the whole team.”
Anant took the idea of teamwork one
step further into friendship and said while
friendship can grow through teamwork it
“can be grown from other places than
soccer.” But the one aspect is great
about soccer is “there is a whole
team around you” so you never
feel alone.
