E #B IN T U 3 2 1. Kimin Lee, a passionate Cello player solos as he works towards completing his DP hours. All DP songs are individually selected by the students. 2. Ms. Lyons leads the band in their final song for the night. This is Ms. Lyons last year at GSIS and she was honored to lead her stu- dents. 3. Harine Choi sings the Phil Collins song, ‘You’ll be in my Heart’. She was the second year two performer of the night. 4. Leo Chun and Luke won, members of the lower secondary band, stand with the other percus- sionists in the back of the stage and keep tempo. Luke also thumped on the bass drum to add emphasis to the song. 5. Jawon Park, a violinist and member of the lower secondary orchestra, stands before the audience and announces the piece they are performing. One of the songs they played was ‘My Favorite Things’ a 1959 song composed for the Broadway musical ‘Sound of Music’. 6. Closing out the evening, Christopher Lee, a member of the upper secondary band keeps tempo to ‘Drive’ by M. Williams. Christopher is also a member of the Jazz Band and performed with them during the Winter Concert. 7. Performing ‘I will tread lightly’ by A. Bair and D. Gregory, Sally Kim, Akaria Sakamoto, Betty Hwang, and Si Eun Lee, members of the upper secondary choir, follow Choir instructor Cindy Choi’s direction. The song is one of jubilation as it fosters reflective thoughts about protecting and cherishing the Earth. 8. Prior to the concert, Ekagra Tomar and Jinju Hughes sit in their assigned orchestra row and re- view the program. Performers stay at school the entire day to rehearse. After rehearsal, they change into their formal evening clothes. 9. DP Year 2 senior Teri Park enthusiastically performs ‘Lullaby Birdland’, an upbeat Jazz tune filled with skatting. Teri selected this song in honor of her mother. 10. As a new student, Yuhee Hong performs for the first time at GSIS and also for the Diploma Program. DP students are recorded and assessed during their performances. Each recording is sent to the IB. 11. Daniel Jung, Yuito Kimura, Haruhi Suzuki, and Saran Watanabe take the stage for their debut performance as mighty sixth graders. Director, Ms. Lyons spoke about the students growth over the quarter, from being unable to play an instrument to performing an entire song. 12. Sunny Kim performs a Grace Lee sang ‘Arirang’ because she wanted special presentation of African music with the other DP Year 2 students. Sunny mentioned, learning these three songs was enjoyable to introduce a traditional Korean song and she had a lot of fun performing them. 13. Ethan Baek plays the saxophone wholeheartedly. This instrument is almost as tall as to the community. She wore a hanbok to him and was his first year playing it. make the performance extra special. 1 56 Fall Student Life
