Younglee’s group measures ingredients for their solution. In order to survive, Younglee’s group wanted to learn how to grow food. 3. Taewoo Kim and David Lee check the pressure of a certain material by using Design Technology equipment. Since Mars has a weaker gravity than Earth, it is necessary to know the amount of pressure a material can hold. 4. Hee Joon Lee experiments with purifying water by using different materials from chemistry class. Finding a way to purify wa- ter is crucial as drinkable water is not readily available on Mars. 5. Lindsey Choi creates an instructional booklet for her group so they can repeat their experiment in the future. Having a procedure written down allows other scientists to repeat experiments. 6. Kimin Lee and Mr. Smith compare the amount of voltage that comes from sunlight. The solar panel gave the amount of voltage produced. He later compared a variety of voltages to see which energy source was most efficient. 7 John Kim, Ben Kim, and Hyunjae Cho stand in front of the fan and test out wind power. The wind power of a fan driven from electricity is important to test to see how strong it can be. 8. Joanne Lee and Mr. Smith read the manual for the group 4 science project. It was crucial for all groups to follow the manual. 9. Lindsey Choi and Misa Suh test chemicals to see if it can purify water. 10. Ethan Kim uses a syringe to add drops to his solution into the beaker. Ethan attempted to mix chemicals together for water purification. 11. John Kim and Bob Piao compare the amount of energy produced from batteries to amount of energy produced by a solar power. Knowing how efficient their energy source was, was an important step for them. 12. Taeeun Uhm explains to Nicole Eggens her idea for implementing the group 4 project. Although there are many means of survival, not all groups chose the same topic and experiment. 13. Peter Jeong mixes chemicals and measures them in a graduated cylinder. Peter experimented with producing carbon dioxide by using different chemicals. 13 143
