GSIS 2017 Yearbook: #BeYou Volume 11 | Page 135

The final stretch of the race: we are all ready to step into our long awaited break. Despite the buzz of excitement radiating throughout the hallways, we are still constantly challenged through the events placed throughout the year: STOP, NHS Talent Show, Prom, VASE, and Graduation. Events like STOP and the NHS Talent Show provide the opportunity to break out of your comfort zone, display your skills, and take control of your fear of public performance. Prom, if you are a junior or senior, invites a culture of developing creative and extravagant methods to propose to a partner of your choice. The VASE trip is a challenge to broaden your perspective and envelop a heart of service for those who need it in foreign countries - for eighth graders, the challenge is within Korea. Finally, if you are a fifth-grader, an eighth-grader, or a senior, graduation is a ceremony that welcomes you into a new environment which would require you to encompass a new setting and broaden your perspective. If you don’t fall into any of the above categories, it doesn’t mean there aren’t challenges available for you. During spring, you can prove yourself in the sports you play. As an elementary student, you could take part in basketball or volleyball and push yourself to learn essential sports skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and communication. Students can participate in soccer or swimming to represent the school for official KAIAC games. Again, don’t be discouraged if you don’t fall into this category either! There are plenty of challenges available in the realm of science. You would be able to experiment with science projects and explore the defining characteristics of an inves- tigation. Science Knights is a time, to participate in a full-fledged science fair which pushes you to explore and carry out an insightful investigation. Even as a junior, Group 4 pushes you to explore creative solutions as a team. Alas, if you do not fit into the science category as well, do not fear, challenges arise as needed and you can definitely make one yourself. The best part of spring is it leaves the most lasting impression. Open yourself courageously and do not be ashamed of who you are. Live in a way that reflects who you are. If you live boldly, you garner the respect of others in that you do as you please. One challenge, that applies to everyone, is breaking out of your comfort zone. Always find ways to push yourself and let your unique identity shine, because it is important to #BeYou. 135
