H aving a large range of play- ers, freshmen to juniors, each 1 2 3 4 6 5 has a unique personality which overall made the team “well-balanced”. Coach Lozano elaborated, “A kid like Brian [Bae] - he’s always going to run after the ball, he’s always going to give his best, and he’s going to tire himself out,” He said. “When Brian’s doing that, John [Kim] is staying calm, focused, and clear headed.” Ethan Kim, junior, defined his personality as both pessimistic and optimistic. He explained that his contrasting personality helped him improve by allowing himself to see what he can work on, while also en- couraging himself to push forward. Jaden Jeong, junior, described himself as “shy”, but emphasized it did not translate to him having a lack of passion. He said, “I wasn’t really talking during the game, so the other team thought that I wasn’t gonna move and stuff, but I tried my best to make rebounds.” According to Jaden, John Kim, a junior, would always be there to tell the teammates what they should improve on and what they are already doing well. John would also cheer the team on so they could stay positive and motivated. Ethan said, “even though we were giving the score [to the other team] we just kept concentrating ... When time was up [for a timeout], Mr. Lozano talked about what we needed to do, and how we needed to execute a play.” Coach Lozano mentioned how the boys never gave up during the season and stayed strong during practices even though they might’ve been disappointed by their results. 1. Coach Lozano explains a strat- egy to Jaden Jeong, Dash Lee, and Ethan Kim as they wait on the bench to play. The team had learned real-time strategy was effective in providing an edge for the team on the court. 2. John Kim prepares to perform a layup during their warm-ups. Layups are an essential part of basketball shots as they are, relatively, one of the easier ways of scoring points. 3. In a tough game against the KIS Phoenix, Jaden Jeong leaps up in order to intercept an oncoming pass. Players are encour- aged to jump for long pass interception as the chance of stealing a long pass is relatively very high. 4. Brian Bae swipes the ball from the hands of his opponent. Brian is eager to steal a possession to his team’s advantage in the hopes of scoring more points. 5. At the sound of the whistle, Louie Chung swats the ball away from the clutches of an APIS Greenhawk. Gaining control of the ball early on in a basketball game is important in order to obtain a strong lead. 6. Dash Lee bounds up the court, dribbling around the KIS defensive players. Dash was encouraged to play aggressively, as well as pass to open team- mates to have every player involved in a possession.
