On On Point P oint #BE #BE Girls JV Basketball Despite a rough sea- son, the key to the Girls JV Basketball team maintaining enthusiasm throughout the season was their ability to be “persistent”. “The biggest dif- ficulties happen with our physical strength because we only have five players and we could play exactly five players on the court. None of us were actually able to rest or have a break during the game,” said Taeeun Uhm. According to Sarah Wilson, sophomore, most of the girls were new to play- ing basketball, herself included, “We were all kind of struggling to figure out how to play the sport.” Despite going through difficulties, being constructive and encouraging others helped the team stay persistent. Alice Park said when the team lost a game they would cheer each other up and say, “It’s okay we’re going to do it [win] next time because there is always going to be a next game. Just because we lost this game doesn’t mean we’re go- ing to lose the next. Although we lost, just push forward and learn from it.” Sarah added, “we would encourage each other by saying ‘hey good job’ or ‘don’t worry about it, good try’.” She con- tinued, “having fun while playing was one of the main things that kept us pushing forward.” Taeeun described the season as “team-like”, imply- ing the difficulties the girls faced bonded them even more tightly, and being able to bond tighter enabled the team to be able to perse- vere. As the starting whistle blows, Sarah Wilson leaps into the air, swiping the basketball away from the opposing KIS team’s grasps. Sarah built on her knowledge of basketball skills from practices to play even better. 126 Winter Sports and Activities
