6 5 7 8 1. The elementary chapel praise team sings while opening their arms. They opened up their arms to show motion. In the Christian faith, opening arms is a sign that God is free to be a part of one’s life and give them a heart that serves others. 2. Mr. Freeman talks to his students about the prayer lines that teachers were asked to read. Lines included ‘Bless the families of those who teach.’ Mr. Freeman explained that this line means that the families “may give them the support and assistance they need to remain faithful and strong families.” 3. The elementary chapel praise team stands on stage and sings for the chapel service. They cup their hands together as an emotive technique while singing. 4. Participating in their classroom chairs, Brian Jeen, Petra Thomas, and Clare Son sing and follow along with the motions of the praise team. 5. Yuto Yoshimura and Francis Park pray during chapel. Yuto and Francis brought their hands together and prayed hard. 6. First grade teacher Ms. Welton reads out the explanation of the weekly verse they have been given from the Bible. Ms. Welton and her students paid attention to her reading during chapel by gathering close together. 7. Trisha Palli, Jose Ward, Vinayak Chopra, and Sarah Bufano perform in front of the chapel. The focus of this message was imitating Jesus. 8. Keahi Brumsickle, Mr. Rains, and Tanvi Mavuri perform and explain to chapel classmates ‘imitating Jesus’. They demonstrate the verse 1 Corinthians 11-1: “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” Guest speaker Mr. Rains spoke to the kids about what it means to be Christ-like. 9. Kanta Kojima, Junyao Li, and Jingjing Yuan all learned to pray in chapel and they prayed to God to become more closer to Him. Brendan Hodgeth 8 Grade Back in Elementary Chapel we had a lot of activities and exercises we could do. People were often called up to act out a scene or play a game, which was fun. I remember one moment in particular in which someone was called to stand on a chair and fall backward trusting that someone would catch them. Kylie Hur 9th Grade I loved the chapels we had during Elementary SEW because we got to be in our groups with different grades and really bond together physically and spiritually with no awkwardness. Even though the themes were not as deep and heavy, I remember talking about who God is to us as a huge group and playing a lot of activities. 9 35 _GSIS Yearbook-ES_Part 1.indd 35 4/16/16 10:38 PM
