Akihito Koyama in fifth grade picks oranges from the salad bar after retrieving his meal from the lunch line. Both students and teachers liked to have fruits and other desserts after their lunch. 2. Mr. Coleman and his third grade students, Shasheesh Manda and Stephanie Ahn, talk and laugh about a cheesy joke that Mr. Coleman told to his students. Elementary teachers ate with their students to supervise them but also to create an opportunity to bond with them as well. 3. Kindergartners’ Ria Kishimoto and Julia Zhao play in the sandbox during recess by making a sand castle and clumping sand together with their hands. Kindergarten had fun playing in the sandbox during their morning break and lunch recesses. 4. Second graders Kai Ying, Debbie, Jeon, Xingzi Li, and Noa Iizuka talk during their lunch recess. Many elementary students chose to play on the playground, play soccer, or talk with their friends. 5. Focused and concentrated, Saran Watanabe and Philip Cho in fifth grade solve a Rubik’s cube. The 3-D combination puzzle, the Rubik’s cube, was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik, a Hungarian sculptor and a professor of architecture. For Saran and Philip, solving the cube was a collaborative effort. 6. First graders Joshua Jung and Yuto Kumano push each other down the slide. Students also used the climbing wall, monkey bars, and crawl tunnel on the playground. 7. At the salad bar, kindergartner, Alfred Tony tightly squeezes the mayonnaise bottle to put it on his bread. The salad bar provided a variety of side dishes such as bread, jam, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, tuna, and pasta that can be eaten with a meal. 8. Takaomi Iso and Ayano Kimura in third grade look at a Japanese comic book while eating their lunch. During their lunch, students liked to socialize with their friends. Socializing involved reading books, looking at photos, sharing special food, and playing games. 9. Second graders Vinayak Chopra and Ethan An play soccer on the soccer field.
