The girls achieved victory in a game against GVCS and first championship title at the Division 2 Conference Championships in 2008, and continued to succeed the following school year. Despite their success, the girls faced great hardships as star players left the team, players not returning after one-season, and being placed in a new division for KAIAC from 2010. Regardless of whatever challenge they faced, the Girls Varsity Soccer team was able to overcome these difficulties and obtain success. In 2013 the team placed first in the Conference and second in the Association of International Schools in Asia (AISA) tournament, with placing second in KAIAC in 2014. Throughout these years the team not only developed their skills, but also built unforgettable bonds that united the members and coaches. The girls’ determination to attain success continues with thirteen returning players and seven new players. “It usually took time for us to adjust to each other, but this year there were not many new players so it was easier to help them get comfortable,” said Lena Park. “It was good that there were many returning players who continued to be part of the team. It really shows our commitment and dedication to the team and to each other,” added Cindy Jung. As one of the new players on the team, Clara Shin 6 0 KKFS but everyone was supportive and helped out. There can be some players who are really good and score all the time, but without the rest of the team supporting them, they cannot always win. That is why we need to have everyone help each other out.” With effective team work and strong skill develTop Row: Coach Francois, Janice Min, Cindy Jung, Hai Jin Park, Siwon Lee, Lena opment, the Varsity Girls Park, Jessie Lee, Olena Vasyltsova, Alex Yoo, Coach Harding; Soccer team continues their Middle Row: Lucy Jung, Sunny Kim, Sarah Kim, Hannah Kim, Woojin Lee, Carrie Jung, Emily Kim, Kylie Hur; Bottom Row: Sarah Uhm, Diana Kim history of obtaining success. 209 NEW_GSIS Yearbook-USS_Part 4.indd 209 4/17/16 8:43 PM
