The majority of the players were first-timers during the start of the session. “I was a bit concerned because most of us were new players, so in the beginning there was a lot of miscommunication,” said third singles player Geena Huh. “But as we continued the session, we were able to become familiar with each other and play better as a team.” To prepare for the KAIAC tournament, the girls went through skill development and training as the season continued. Second singles player Lindsey Choi said, “We did a lot of training such as rallies and practice games with team members. It helped me develop my skills.” Lindsey further acknowledged the importance of staying fit. “Tennis matches can also continue for a long time, so conditioning was very important. We did workouts to increase our overall body condition and strength.” One of the greatest factors in achieving success was 1 2 the support for each other. Geena commented, “One thing we focused on throughout the game was to not lose our team spirit and stay together as a team.” She continued, “Although we have different positions such as singles or doubles, we wanted to stay as a team.” In the KAIAC conference, the girls competed with teams from four different schools. First doubles player Jiwon Min described how she overcame her nervousness. “I was very nervous before the match because it was the most important match of the session. However as I continued to play the game, I forgot about the nervousness and started to enjoy the game.” 3 Jiwon’s doubles partner Gabeen Kim commented, “Even though there were times when we didn’t play well, we encouraged each other to stay strong and win the next round.” 4 5 Due to team encouragement and continuous preparation throughout the session, the girls tennis team ended the season with third place in KAIAC conference and the All Conference Individuals Award by Jade Hughes. In the KAIAC Girl’s Red Division Tournament, the team shared second place, with MVP award and All Tournament Individuals First Place by Jade Hughes. 6 7 S ARS 10 YE OF ORIE M E M S I TENN 2008 First match ever was against KIS. 2009 ade NEW_GSIS Yearbook-USS_Part 4.indd 185 2011Received their first 2010 Start of Tennis 8 victory against Osan American High School. 2012 Their goal was to win at least one full game with no double-faults, and they won four matches. 1.
