The majority of the players were first-timers during
the start of the session.
“I was a bit concerned because most
of us were new players, so in the beginning there was a lot of miscommunication,” said third singles player Geena Huh. “But as we
continued the session, we were able to become familiar
with each other and play better as a team.”
To prepare for the KAIAC tournament, the girls
went through skill development and training as the season continued. Second singles player Lindsey Choi said,
“We did a lot of training such as rallies and practice
games with team members. It helped me develop my
skills.”
Lindsey further acknowledged the importance
of staying fit. “Tennis matches can also continue for a
long time, so conditioning was very important. We did
workouts to increase our overall body condition and
strength.”
One of the greatest factors in achieving success was

the support for each other. Geena commented, “One
thing we focused on throughout the game
was to not lose our team spirit and stay
together as a team.” She continued, “Although we have
different positions such as singles or doubles, we wanted to stay
as a team.”
In the KAIAC conference, the girls competed with teams from
four different schools. First doubles player Jiwon Min described
how she overcame her nervousness. “I was very nervous before
the match because it was the most important match of the session. However as I continued to play the game, I forgot about the
nervousness and started to enjoy the game.”

Jiwon’s doubles partner Gabeen Kim commented, “Even
though there were times when we didn’t play
well, we encouraged each other to stay strong
and win the next round.”

Due to team encouragement and continuous preparation
throughout the session, the girls tennis team ended the season
with third place in KAIAC conference and the All Conference
Individuals Award by Jade Hughes. In the KAIAC Girl’s Red
Division Tournament, the team shared second place, with
MVP award and All Tournament Individuals First Place by
Jade Hughes.

Their goal was to win at
least one full game with no
double-faults, and they won
four matches.
1. Jeff Jin stands next to Sarah Kim (11)
to show her how to correctly serve. Girls
Varsity and Boys Varsity teams often practiced together to support and learn from each
other. 2. Sitting in front of Samuel Lee, Geena
Huh asks him about his injury. Samuel injured
himself as by putting an excessive amount of spin
on his serves, inflicting great pressure on his shoulders. 3. Ji Won Min passes a tennis ball to Sae Takeuchi. Ji Won is a part of first Doubles with Diana Kim
while Sae Takeuchi plays in second Doubles alongside
Jessica Oh. 4. First Singles player Jade Hughes hits a backhand. During the home game with Osan, Jade won 8 to 0.
5. Lindsey Choi picks the ball up to serve the ball. When
serving, the server’s feet must stay behind the back line of
the court. 6. Sae Takeuchi and Ji Won Min keep score of Jade
Hughes’ match against an opponent from Osan. Jade concluded the game with a victory. 7. Sitting side by side, Jessica
Oh and Lindsey Choi wait for their game against Osan. The
home game against the Osan Cougars was their very first
match of the season. 8. Diana Kim aims to hit the ball.
Diana paired up with Jade Hughes and played a friendly
Doubles match against Geena Huh and Sae Takeuchi.
9. Lindsey Choi runs to save the ball before it completes its second bounce. In tennis, a player loses a
point if they fail to return the ball before it bounces twice in their half of the court.
