Jin Weisser and Nick Lee pull the Tug-of-War rope with their other eight sophomore peers in an attempt to beat the freshman. The sophomores dominated the game winning the competition against all high school grade levels. After the end of every sports season, the SCA hosts a pep rally in these. In these pep rallies, students and teacher alike participate in games, chant the GSIS fight song, and beat on thundersticks and clapper. These pep rallies are not only a time where the GSIS community comes to play games, but it is a time to commemorate the sport players that have played during each season. Pep rally has always been a tradition at GSIS. SCA President Seungjun Juyeon Kim, 12 Lee commented, “Pep rallies are meaningful events, since it brings tudent ife 156 S L NEW_GSIS Yearbook-USS_Part 4.indd 156 all four grades of upper secondary together to celebrate the achievement of our student athletes and team’s accomplishment as one. It also serves as a bonding time for the student body. While pep rallies are in place for mainly the student athletes, we also get to recognize some of our amazing students that got to accomplish great things throughout the semester. When I was in ninth grade I always appreciated the great things other students are doing for the school. The games SCA provides for the students serves as an enjoyment for the student body and I think it’s a great tradition.” Before the pep rally takes place it is heralded by Spirit Week. The Spirit Week has both students and teachers dressing up according to certain interesting and creative themes, such as Fashion Disaster Day. On the topic of creating various Spirit Week themes, SCA Vice President Juyeon Kim said, “SCA comes up with spirit days by just putting out ideas that might seem enjoyable to Ning thend TighT Eunity Bo Comm USS Pep Rally dress up for. The categories might include certain events, colors, fictional characters, and etcetera. From there we choose the ones that seem like the student body will enjoy participating in, be realistic, or be something that everyone has in their closet.” She also added, “However SCA is always open to new ideas!” Spirit Week is not only in place for having fun and help lead up to the pep rally, but it also helps form unity among students. “I think Spirit Week promotes unity in the ironic sense that not a lot of people participate. The ones that actually do feel “special” like we have an inside joke to ourselves,” commented Juyeon, “We try to encourage EVERYONE to participate.” 4/17/16 8:19 PM
