GSIS 10 Year Anniversary Yearbook: Memories | Page 127

I remember my friends and I getting college acceptance e-mails during class and celebrating out loud. Even the teachers stopped to congratulate us, which showed us they cared about our future beyond GSIS. – Jaho Koo, 2013 Throughout the years in GSIS I would regard my time in SCA as one of my favorites. I genuinely enjoyed the chance to work with teachers and other students, more importantly it gave me a sense of what I wanted to do in the future! – Cecilia Lee, 2014 My favorite memory at GSIS was the Nepal VASE trip, as there were countless memories made from that trip along with extreme spiritual moments. – Peter Park, 2015 My best memory at GSIS was going to the teachers during break or even after school for extra help. They were always welcoming and always available. Now that I am in college where one on one lessons with the instructors are almost impossible, I now appreciate our dedicated GSIS teachers more than ever. I especially want to thank Mr. Harding for always being glad to help. He took genuine delight in seeing his students improving. – Hannah Seo, 2014 I am thankful to all of the teachers for their generosity to teach in the “jungle” and personally I would like to apologize to the security guards because I tried to sneak out multiple times. I was lucky to be in GSIS with the best faculty members in the world. – Stephanie Oh, 2012 I have so many things I miss about GSIS. I miss taking classes, writing essays for history class taught by Mr. McNutt, enjoying SEW week, practicing piano with the praise band, eating chicken with the dorm girls after school… I really miss those days! – Doris Byeon, 2011 I want to thank some teachers who still bring an impact in my life through prayers and unselfish love and care. It humbles me and reminds me to trust in God always for He is faithful. -Tom Kim, 2014 One of the best memories I had at GSIS is being part of the girls’ soccer team. From dreading to go to practice on cold rainy days to winning the championship and just playing soccer in general, I miss every moment of it. Also, getting closer to the secretaries, Miss Maeng, Miss Hong, and Ms Huh was great! They were so nice and patient with me. – Emily Park, 2014 One of the best memories I had in GSIS was how I grew up as an artist. The talks I had with my art teachers helped me to stay open-minded, critical, and mature and responsible as an artist. – Cynthia Lee, 2015 The best part of my high school life was that I had valuable friends to share joy, pleasure, and pain. – Kelvin Lee, 2015 I enjoyed GSIS because the school community helped me find my passion in drama, discover my strengths and weaknesses, and build my foundation in Christ. Rather than simply putting up a clock in the front of the class, Mr. Leigh demonstrated how much time we had until the exam was over by making the hour hand and minute hand with his body. – Monica Cho, 2014 Though this may sound cliché, one of my favorite memories from GSIS has to be lunchtime. Not so much because of the food, but more because of the friends that made the one hour break worth hauling yourself out of bed every morning to go to school! – Yoojin Lee, 2013 For a p eriod of seven years at GSIS, I took part in various teams and clubs, all of which I recall as “good” memories. If I had to select the highlights of these memories, it would be spending my last two years of high school in Frontline and representing GSIS as a soccer player during my freshman year. The sense of community from both of these experiences is what mattered most to me. - Chanmin Sung, 2015 Being a member of VASE trip to Boracay was my best memory. I enjoyed that I actually went to the site and helped people in need. Also, during the trip, I got closer with the team as everyone cares for each other. I hope all GSIS students will take the chance to volunteer on the service trip while GSIS. attending I – Peter Shin, am 2013 thankful for Kim Lozano and Jonathan Tam for being easy to talk to. During my time at GSIS they have always treated me fairly and I am happy to say I still keep in touch with both of them on a regular basis. – Ryan Kim, 2012 ) Mrs. Lozano, Ryan Kim and Jenny Kim (‘12) Miriam Lee (‘14) The best memories I had from GSIS are working on yearbook. It is because I had a chance to participate in all kinds of events at school, which I can no longer do after graduating and going to college. Another memory is watching games after class. All GSIS students cheered together for the players to win. I still remember the moments when all of us shouted for GSIS. – Soo Hyun Hong, 2012 I started GSIS in seventh grade during second semester and every year I was there I made new discoveries about school, spiritual life, and just about myself. It allowed me to grow as a person, a young adult and prepared me well for life after high school. I miss it a lot. Thank you to all of the teachers that went through ups and downs of my high school life it must have been a journey for you just as much as it was for me. – Teddy Ahn, 2015 Soo Hong and Elizabeth Jeon (‘12) Ahyoung Cho (‘13) Sarah Park (‘13) Mr. J. Montgomery and Teddy Ahn (‘15) One of my best memories at GSIS is eating bananas and apples with peanut butter with my friends during lunchtime, and dragging ourselves to class after lunch. I always enjoyed being on the volleyball and basketball team and I still miss it! - Kris Park, 2013 Sunglae Park (‘13) Kris P a rk (‘1 3) Te Pa rry rk (‘1 3 Lydia Kang (‘11) and Mrs. VanWyk Thinking back to GSIS there are so many great memories from VASE trips, SEW, SCA, Night of Worship, to being on the basketball team and other sports events. I still cannot forget my mission trip to Indonesia and not going the fourth year because I graduated. The people sent me a video telling me that I’m part of their family and they miss me. – Miriam Lee, 2014 I've cherished all my moments in GSIS but the best one would be playing Varsity Basketball. It was such a great opportunity to play with my teammates, friends, and teachers. - Tim Park, 2013 Looking back as a college student, I should say the best memory I have of GSIS is the unchanging welcoming environment of the staff members. Discovering how lonely college can be, I find it so meaningful and thankful now that almost all of GSIS staff remembered and called me by my name! Such a friendly and engaging environment the staff tried to make, this is my best memory! – Matthew Kim, 2014 GSIS Yearbook-USS_Part 3.indd 127 I would like to thank Mr. Villarreal, Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Pitkin, Mr. Dellos, and Mr. Wiese for pouring out their heart and dedication to their respective sports teams as coaches. They not only taught me how to be successful on the court, or the pitch, but more importantly out here in life. I cannot thank them enough. – Jeff Jung, 2013 Hannah Seo and Sarah Kil (‘14) Hanbee Ryu (‘13) GSIS provided me with a myriad of opportunities in many areas and helped me to nurture new skills and strengths. My best memory was being part of the high school praise team with Mr. Lozano, Mr. Couts, Mr. Arndt, and countless other great students and faculty musicians. I was able to grow firmly as a leader and a Christian, which eventually shaped who I am today. I greatly and wholeheartedly miss every single member and teacher who was on the praise team. I want to send my sincerest thanks for being part of my fondest memories in GSIS. – Jason Yoonho Lee, 2012 I thoroughly appreciated my time in GSIS. The main reason as to why I am so fond of GSIS is not necessarily because of the typical “high school-teenage-life,” but because I met some of the best mentors and teachers who guided me into becoming who I am today. I would love to go back and thank those teachers when I am more accomplished. Some of the teachers include Mrs. Park, Mrs. Lozano, Mr. Moore, and more. - Joanne Kwan, 2013 Tim Park (‘13) David Shin (‘13) Looking back I am so thankful that GSIS and its administrators took a chance on a student teacher way back in 2009. I got an amazing opportunity to learn the IB program much earlier in my career than many teachers and for that I am forever thankful. GSIS will always have a spot in my heart for that and I'll always remember where I began my career. - Andrew Wiese, Former Faculty 127 4/16/16 6:35 PM
