1 . Provide support and training to enhance the skill sets of veterinarians and producers related to the development and evaluation of producer education programs 2 . Veterinarians and producers identify and evaluate existing education programs for producers on appropriate on-farm antibiotic use 3 . Veterinarians and producers identify areas of need for enhanced education for producers 4 . Veterinarians and producers develop multi-media approaches to complement existing resources to support and educate producers , as needed , on appropriate on-farm antibiotic use 5 . Veterinarians and producers devise a high-level strategy for implementation of producer training , including : i ) assessment of opportunities for delivery , including : a . in conjunction with existing continuing education events b . as a collaborative program with organizations such as OVC , OMAFRA , CFIA , CVO , and Health Canada c . various media options ii ) frequency of course delivery 6 . Veterinarians and producers establish and implement a review and update cycle of the tools utilized , and the content of the education program ( s )

Veterinarians and producers analyze and understand drivers for the introduction of , as well as the successes and challenges associated with existing examples of mandatory training programs for product purchase and use , such as the Ontario Pesticides Training and Certification program 2 . Veterinarians and producers consider aspects of implementation , including : i ) pros and cons of voluntary versus mandatory ii ) identification of potential funding channels iii ) opportunities for recognition / certification of course completion 3 . Veterinarians and producers research and write a persuasive position paper for key stakeholders on the merits of producer training programs on antibiotic use to improve antibiotic use and to reduce the potential for antibiotic resistance .
1 . Veterinarians facilitate a strategic visioning session to establish a standardized data collection process , and information resource , for the purpose of charting changes in antibiotic resistance patterns 2 . Veterinarians establish and implement a plan to share data on antibiotic resistance patterns in a standardized , ongoing and formal manner
