society and how to relate to women.

Finally, the host of the event Senator Guerra shared closing words. She stated that while laws are not enough, legislators have the key to transform women’s situation. This will require great skill and perseverance.

reality of girls, and that can transform

the reality of our countries.

Moving from Formal to Substantive Equality

She told the delegates that Mexico seeks economic development as a means of improving women’s lives, and that it will remain open to the world and welcoming to all of them.

At the Gathering it was undisputed that more women in politics is an essential task, and that the sharing of strategies among parliamentarians in the region spurs progress towards this goal. The Group agreed that the answer to real gender equality is not solely in the numbers. Sustainable, transformative change will occur when patriarchal systems are replaced by systems valuing real equality for all. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of both men and women to advocate for this. We must continue working together to create the conditions that will pave the way for the

next generation of empowered women leaders.
