NOTES
Almost all readers of this magazine will own and
treasure the books written by Simon Inglis chronicling the history of Football League grounds. It may
come as a shock to some that the third of Simon’s
esteemed ‘Football Grounds of’ books was published as far back as 1996. Of course Simon has not
been idle since, having published other footballthemed titles and, since 2004, working with English
Heritage to preserve the nation’s sporting structures.
This work has led to a number of iconic books recounting the sporting history of a number of cities
across the UK. However, the cherry on the icing on
top of the cake is his latest offering: Played in London. In this issue we take a look at the football aspects of this classic book.
