There is nothing more frustrating than finding a great product , using it , and being disappointed with the results . Through our testing , I discovered that working with Crazy Liberty is slightly different than some of the dyes we are used to working with , therefore , we have composed a list to help you get the best possible results from this product .
. Wear gloves ! This is something we say with any semi-permanent dye . If not , the first 12-15 layers of your epidermis will also absorb the dye . This is in no way harmful to you , but it does mean that it will take 2-3 weeks for the dye to fade from your hands .
. This product , like all semi-permanent dyes , is made to be used directly from the package … it is not intended to be diluted . All results you see here were completed using the product directly , nothing was diluted .
. Shake well before opening . I did notice that just as with most semi-permanent dyes , there was some pigment separation during shelf time . The great thing about Crazy Liberty is that the tube container can simply be shaken well unlike dyes in tubs that must be opened and mixed with a spoon if the pigment has begun to separate .
. Even though the label says apply to a damp coat , your best results will come from applying to a clean , dry coat . Because a damp coat means there is moisture attached to the cuticle of the hairs , this can inhibit dye absorption leading to mottled color that is uneven and possibly even darker in some places than others .
. Crazy Liberty is a bit thicker than some of the semi-permanent dyes we are accustomed to . Therefore , you need to make extra effort to be sure you work the product down to the skin to avoid finding uncolored pockets of hair when finished . Take your time and work the product through thoroughly .
. Crazy Liberty needs a minimum of 20 minutes of set time with some colors , however others such as black , need a full 30 minutes of setting time . Otherwise , you will see the under casting of the base color .
. One thing I discovered that was very different than what I am used to , but I really liked , was the fact that the product semidried while setting . Rather than have a dripping mess on my table , the dye dried a bit in place on the dog helping to keep it in place and not running into unwanted areas . I could apply both the black and yellow to Steve at once which would typically be a risky thing to do as the colors could bleed together either during application , the setting process , or even the rinsing process . Not to mention my table wasn ’ t nearly as messy as usual , lol .
. As with any semi-permanent dye rinse very well until the water runs clear . To ensure there is no dye left on the outer portion of the cuticle that could rub off on furniture , clothing , etc …. follow with a gentle bath after rinsing well .
