Spring is a perfect time to visit

Spring is a stunning time of year in many locations, however, at Greystone Retreat it is more so.

The forest canopy and floor burst to life ... you can almost see it growing right before your eyes. You certainly can 'feel' it in the air. Pussywillows pop first then, wild leeks, spring violets, unfurling ferns and buds on the many types of trees along the trails.

And, of course, in May -- our provincial flower --

the white trillium can be spotted in clumps at the base of the hill and along Bridge Trail.

The first buds burst open

Our beautiful pink magnolia shrub is almost always the first flower of spring ... some years it plays host to two or three rounds of blooms.

There is a trick in pruning to getting the most blooms and, if you miss the very brief windows of opportunity to prune, you risk the disappointment of no blooms the following season. It is worth the extra effort to view this fast-growing shrub on full display.
