S Patience paying off teve and Karen Lawson met through a mutual friend that they occasionally went water skiing with at Lake Tawakoni in the mid-1980s. But didn’t go on a date until their mu- tual friend set them up four years later, in 1988. “He was sweet, humble, al- most shy and loved God passion- ately,” she recalls. Later that year, she moved to Boston for her job with Amer- ican Airlines, so the couple stayed in touch through letters (since the internet and cell phones weren’t on the scene yet). They were wed in March the following year. “Having him share his heart through words and seeing him teach kids at his gymnastics gym won me over,” she says. Steve, his wife says, is strong yet sensitive, selfless, patient, bril- liant, funny and forgiving. The Lawsons have three daughters and, now, two grandchil- dren. Karen considers herself and her spouse to be opposites, which is why they go so well together, she said. Their common ground is the Christian faith they share, which allows them to bond and to learn from each other. She attributes their longevity to patience and forgiveness; they are “two of the reasons we’re still happy,” she says. “Plus, he’s cute.” D Greenville Floral Gifts & Boutique CC & Company 2610 Lee Street · Downtown Greenville 903-454-3311 · Find us on Facebook! 2418 Lee Street Downtown Location 903-453-8028 Love Is All Around Glenda Drake & Rachael Johnson can’t wait for you to stop by Greenville Floral Gifts & Boutique to see them and the many new items arriving daily.
