WINTER 2019 Greenville Life 15 What Cheyene is thinking but not yet saying in this photo – captured during their second date – is that her new beau, Jesse, “must be a keeper” after he volunteered to help her bleach her daughter’s toys. own boutique and salon that opened in downtown Greenville in July of last year. “Opening my own boutique had been my personal dream for nearly 10 years,” Cheyene explains. “And just like when I told him about my daughter, he didn’t bat an eye, but just told me he supported me and believed in me.” For Jesse, supporting his wife’s dream isn’t just his responsibility, but he says it is his privilege as well. “She works so hard and is such a good wife and mother, and when she told me this was her dream, and some- thing she really wanted to do, it was a no-brainer,” he said. Cheyene, who grew accustomed to playing the constant role of supporter in her first marriage and other relation- ships, explained how impactful it was for her to see that Jesse truly supported her first and foremost – and without so much as a second thought to any alter- native. Even now, he calls from Pecos ev- ery day to check on her, to ask about the business and to listen to Cheyene talk about her day. “I could tell from the beginning that those weren’t just words coming from him,” she said. “He’s supported me and my dream financially, emotionally, everything.” Jesse’s remaining time working in Pecos is indefinite, but according to the couple, it could be anywhere from three to five years with the lucrative oil booms in West Texas. But no matter the distance be- tween them, it’s the strength of their love and commitment to one another that has forged a steel-strong bond. As difficult as it is with him working so far away, they both know they wouldn’t have it any other way. “We’ve been through a lot of hard things in our first three years togeth- er,” Cheyene says. “But cliché or not, I couldn’t imagine walking through it with anybody but him. He’s the epitome of true love, the hardest worker I know, and his integrity is unmatched. Life is hard sometimes, but, together, I think we kind of rock it.” D
