Chard Scones Chard Scones Savory, tangy feta with chard all wrapped up in a delicious and convenient package ready to grab and go. Prep Time: 25 minutes Cook Time: 12 minutes Yield: 12 servings Ingredients 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 clove garlic, minced ½ cup finely diced yellow onion ¾ cup diced chard stems 1 cup thinly sliced chard leaves 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder ½ teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon table salt 4 ounces cold unsalted butter, cut into ¼ inch cubes ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese 1 cup whole milk 1 large egg, beaten Preparation 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Heat olive oil over medium high heat in a large non-stick skillet. Add garlic, onion and chard stems. Sauté for about 5 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent burning the garlic. 3. Add chard leaves and sauté for an additional minute or until wilted. Set aside to cool. 4. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large mixing bowl. 5. Cut cold butter into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter or a fork until mixture resembles a coarse meal. Fold in cooled chard mixture and feta cheese. 6. Whisk milk and egg in a separate bowl until well combined. Add to flour mixture and gently mix until just combined. 7. Place dough on a floured surface and form into a 1-inch thick disk. Cut dough into 12 triangles and place onto a lightly greased baking pan. 8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven. Serve warm with butter. Cook’s Note: Make an extra batch of scones and let them cool to room temperature. Place in a freezer bag and freeze for another time. These scones go great with a warm bowl of soup.
