“ THE EARTH DOES NOT BELONG TO US : WE BELONG TO THE EARTH ” - Marlee Matlin

Saint Andrews Day School became a certified Green School by the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education ( MAEOE ) in May 2008 .

The Maryland Green School Awards Program incorporates local environmental issue investigation into the school curriculum and requires training in environmental best management practices by administrators , teachers and staff .
At Saint Andrews , the entire school community is aware of and proud of the Green School certification . In fact , a deep commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship is evident through Saint Andrews ' mission statement , policies , curriculum and everyday practices .
Teachers attend annual Environmental or Outdoor Education professional development classes . Each class participates in an extensive and celebratory Earth Day Exposition . A small farm on the school ’ s property includes gardens , goats & chickens . Students not only care for the plants and animals , but also learn about roles and responsibilities , commerce , and stewardship . Students harvest from the vegetable gardens , collect and plant seeds in flowerbeds , explore in sensory gardens , and help create and learn about rain gardens .
The goal of Saint Andrews is to empower students by encouraging them to develop the innovative , analytic and strategic skills their generation will be called on to use in the protection and care of the Earth .
Saint Andrew ' s Day School is now accepting students for Fall enrollment . We invite you to our campus and meet our faculty . Please contact Sue Meyer , Director of Admissions , at 410.266.0952 . www . standrewsum . org
