EATS STORY BY JENNIE MELVIN 443.223.2771 • [email protected] I couldn’t decide where to go for my review, so I reached out to my friend, Wendy, and she suggested lunch at Lures Bar & Grille in Crownsville -- Stylishly decorated and extremely inviting, Lures is hidden in plain sight at 1397 Generals Highway. We chose to eat inside because it was oppressively hot and humid out, but their outside dining is certainly charming and pleasant. Mike, our server, let us peruse the menu while he got us our drinks. There was so much to choose from; I quickly realized I should have invited more people so I could have sampled more of the menu. While answering our questions, Mike informed us of an interesting and proud Lures fact - they have no freezers. Absolutely everything they serve is fresh. Alright, now we’re talkin’! Wendy decided to start with a cup of the Jalapeno Corn Crab Chowder -- a blend of fresh jalapenos, corn, bacon, onion and southwest spices, topped with jumbo lump 16 16 GREENBOOK | SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2014 crabmeat. It was indeed a meaty chowder, but not too heavy, each bite finishing with the perfect hint of heat from the jalapenos. I started with the Tomato Mozzarella Stack -- fresh mozzarella, fried tomatoes, basil, organic spinach, roasted red peppers and a balsamic glaze. This dish intrigued me because the tomatoes were breaded in panko crumbs and fried. The combination of crunch from the breading, juiciness from the tomato and smoothness from the mozzarella was pretty fantastic. We also ordered the Fried Cauliflower, because I was just too curious. It consisted of lightly breaded florets of cauliflower fried to a crispy perfection, dusted with salt and served with a small side of Sriracha sauce. Let’s just say I could have snacked on these little gems all day long!
