Kids do not need to be a member to attend an event, but members receive a passport that is stamped with the country’s cuisine that they tried during a LDC event. Both kids and parents sample the same menu and kids get a chance to rate which dishes they en- joyed better than others. A LDC event is an interactive dining experience, as kids are able to chat with the chef, tour the kitchen, and dine with their peers at their own table. Adults enjoy their own dining experience at a different table or in a separate area of the restaurant, while enjoying a glass of wine or cocktail. LDC came about when we discovered that most kid’s menus at various restaurants offer the same foods consisting of mac-and-cheese, chicken fingers, ham- burgers, buttered noodles etc. Our kids typically eat what we eat and we encourage them to try new foods, especially when we dine out. We knew that many parents struggle to get their kids to eat anything that they’re not familiar with, so we came up with the concept that would introduce new foods to kids in a fun way. GEM: What would you say to the parent who is inter- ested joining Little Diner’s Crew, but has the pickiest of eaters in their hands? D.C. We turn picky eaters into foodies. Most of the kids that attend a LDC event are picky eaters and our kids are no exception to some point. We noticed that kids are more likely to try new foods when they are surrounded by their peers. Parents have been delighted to see their kids trying mussels, Indian cuisine and even sushi. Not every kid is going to like every dish, but we try to allow them to explore a safe, moderate, and adven- turous dish during each event. It’s amazing to see how they transition from being skeptical about trying new food to becoming excited about the next dish coming out of the kitchen. They also feel empowered when it comes to critiquing their food. We turn picky eaters into foodies.
