Featured Photographer: Phil Cheevers Max Glamour - What got you started with photography? When, Where, How? I started in university with film and darkroom and then gave it up because, you know, life happened. I picked up shooting again about 5 years ago in the age of digital and found my love again. - Whats your favorite genre of photography to shoot? Creative portraits by far. Of course creative portraits can be glamorous, funny, sexy, or serious, but they are a product of a good relationship between photographer and subject. - What are two main elements do you think are needed for a successful shoot? It all starts with the idea, which can come from model or photographer or the company commissioning the work. After that collaboration is the key to execution. - Would you recommend a professional MUA for shoots? Why or Why not? I’ve worked with some great MUA and it is always a stronger execution with a team collaborating. So yes, highly recommended. - What are three tips you would give a model when planning a shoot? Nails, lips, eyes, teeth an d skin. That’s preparation. Know what you want to get from a shoot. If you can’t say what you want, you get photographer’s choice which is going to be good but, again that word, collaboration makes the images better. And third, have fun. If it’s not fun, stop, change the game, and carry on feeling fabulous. - Music for a shoot who’s in your playlist? I generally ask the model if they have a playlist on their phone or Sonza or Youtube. Death metal throws me off but just about everything else is a good thing on the set. - What are your goals for 2016? I’d like to work with some new models, publish more, and generally have as much fun as I did shooting in 2015. I had a great year with some wonderful models and repeating that would be just fine.
