STRENGTHENING CHURCHES
We have had the opportunity, even
in the midst of our building proj-
ect, to assist churches who find
themselves in difficult seasons.
Below are a few of the ways we have
worked to strengthen the church.
ROOF PROJECT
In 2016, we were approached by
Blessed Hope Bible Church to see
if we could offer assistance with
their need for a new roof. They
had participated in Emmanuel
Empowerment Corporation (which
Calvary’s late Senior Pastor Emeri-
tus Ed Dobson had also been a part
of) and told that if they were ever
in need down the line, they should
call Calvary Church. In order for
them to continue meeting in their
building, the City of Grand Rapids
told them they needed to repair
their roof. This was a financial
difficulty for their congregation
and upon remembering what they
had been told previously, they felt
God leading them to seek our help.
After praying over the request, the
deacons were compelled to help
with their roof need.
WELLSPRING CHURCH
In 2014 God called our former
Executive Pastor, Steve Gibson, to
serve as Lead Pastor at Wellpsring
Community Church in Hudsonville.
This church had been through a
difficult season and needed heal-
ing. In an effort to help them
transition to new leadership and
start a fresh season, we offered our
Pastoral Resident, Jake Boerman, to
their staff. Jake oversaw our evan-
gelism ministry at Calvary and he
is currently Wellspring’s Director
of Youth. Steve continues to meet
with our staff and connect with our
larger circle of church plants for
18
ministry support and encourage-
ment.
SUNSHINE COMMUNITY
CHURCH
Recently God has provided Cal-
vary with an opportunity to come
alongside Sunshine Church during
a season of transition. It is our joy
to assist them in this season, in
order to see Christ’s church grow
in West Michigan. While they are
meeting at Christ’s Chapel (Corner-
stone University) we have offered
the opportunity to use our building
as needed. We have also recently
provided them with a financial gift
to aid them with costs associated
with the move from their previous
campus. Please be praying for the
Sunshine Church community in
this season.
