THE GREAT LEVELLER
2016.20
Wet weather is always the great leveller in motor racing, and at this edition
of the Brazilian Grand Prix treacherous conditions at Interlagos separated
the men from the boys. Looking back on the day there were two men in the
field and the rest were boys...
Lewis Hamilton was imperious in the conditions leading from start to finish,
amid a number of restarts and safety car periods. Each time he simply
flew into the distance unchallenged, leaving his Mercedes teammate and
title rival Nico Rosberg in his mist as he powered to his ninth victory of the
season and reducing the points gap to 12.
The other man among the boys was Max Verstappen who delivered a
performance that defied belief and must go down as among the best rain
drives ever. from 16th to third in 16 laps sums up his feat as he drove rings
around his rivals.
On a championship note, Rosberg did exactly what he had to do - finish
behind Hamilton and now needs to do that one more time this year, thus
the 2016 title will be decided at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
