Saurabh Chopra, General Manager, Golden Greens Golf Club to attract junior golfers. Sundeep who is one of the pioneers of junior golf in the country, has been organizing multiple tournaments of the Ultimate Golf Junior Tour in association with U.S Kids golf at our golf course since 2008. I have seen him personally setting up the golf course for his tournaments, with up to 8 tees on each hole to cater for different age groups. The feedback I have received after each tournament has been very encouraging. The decision to install forward tees has been a step in the right direction, over the years we have observed the number of juniors at our golf course steadily increasing” says Mr. Saurabh Chopra, General Manager, Golden Greens Golf Club. The unique tee system comprises of two sets of forward tees on each hole, these are ahead of the forward most tees of the golf course. To be eligible for the USGA course rating, the forward tee No.1 (Orange) has been set up in a way that each nine meets the minimum yardage requirement of 1500 yards and has one hole measuring 250 yards on both sides. The Forward tee No.2 (Yellow) is placed between the forward Tee No.1 and the existing forward most tee (Red Tee), adding up to a total distance of 4500 yards over 18 holes. Setting up forward tees requires the expertise of the golf professional and the course superintendent, and are not randomly placed to achieve the desired yardages. Attempt has been made to maintain the integrity of each hole (i.e. dog-legs, shape and strategically positioned approach shots) while setting up the course. The landing area is taken into consideration, avoiding long forced carries, hazards, second shots from the rough, steep hills, other diffi cult locations, etc. GolfPlus Junior November-December 2019 25
