Mukesh Sabharwal, Kshitij Kaul and Aadil Bedi T he World Amateur Team Championship, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world was hosted by the Carton House golf club in Maynooth near Dublin, Ireland. Conducted by the International Golf Federation, which comprises of the National governing bodies of golf in more than 125 countries, the World Amateur Team Championship is a biennial international amateur golf competition rotated among three geographic zones of the world: Asia Pacifi c, America and European – African. Some of the greatest players on the planet have represented their countries in the past Jack Nicklaus, Colin Montgomerie, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Rory Mcllroy, Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau to name a few in the Men’s Competition. Nancy Lopez, Beth Daniel, Annika Sorenstam, Se-Ri Pak, Karrie Webb, Grace Park, Paula Creamer to name a few in the Women’s Competition. Each team comprises of three players and plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the Sifat Sagoo, Diksha Dagar, Ridhima Dilawari with Mrs. Nandita Rao team score for the round. The four –day (72-hole) total is the teams score for the Championship. The winning team in the women’s competition receives custody of the Espirito Santo Trophy for the ensuing two years and the winning team in the men’s competition receives custody of the Eisenhower Trophy for the ensuing two years. A total of 170 women from 57 countries participated in the 28th Edition of the Espirito Santo Trophy, the Indian team comprised of Ridhima Dilawari, Diksha Dagar and Sifat Sagoo with Mrs. Nandita Rao as the Captian of the Team. Team USA took home the trophy with a score of 29 under par, the Indian team fi nished at tied 25th Position. Ayean Cho of Korea at KARINA - THE ONLY INDIAN-AMERICAN GIRL TO ACHIEVE JUNIOR WORLD TROPHY Karina Jadhav, an 8 year old golfer won the 2018- IMG Junior World Golf Championships trophy at Sycuan Golf Resort, San Diego in July fi nishing at fourth place in the 7-8 year old Girls category. After clinching this trophy, Karina became the No.1 ranked golfer in USA and No.4 ranked in the world following players from Japan, Thailand and China in the girls age 8 year category. She had a close fi nish behind the Chinese player Yujie Liu who fi nished third in the Junior World Championship. Karina 32 GolfPlus Junior November-December 2018 17 under par brought in the best Individual score for the tournament. The 31st Edition of the Eisenhower trophy had 215 Men from 72 countries competing for the top honours, the Indian team comprised of Rayhan J Thomas, Kshitij Naved Kaul and Aadil Bedi with Gen. Mukesh Sabharwal as the Captian of the Team and Mr.Sundeep Verma as the Team Coach. Team Denmark with a score of 39 Under Par took home the Eisenhower Trophy, the Indian boys fi nished at 31st position with a score of 10 under par. Alejandro Del Rey from Spain at 23 Under Par brought in the best individual score for the tournament, Rayhan Thomas with a score of 15 under par fi nished at Tied 8th Position. played challenging rounds of golf for 3 straight days of 54 holes stroke play with a total of 182. She won the fourth place in a card-off tie-breaker due to her lowest back nine holes scoring. This year marked Karina’s second junior world trophy (she earned her fi rst in 2016) and is the only Indian-American girl to achieve this trophy amongst all age groups from 6-18 year old.
