Club News STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AN INITIATIVE OF THE DELHI GOLF CLUB AS A CSR IMPLEMENTING AGENCY he Delhi Golf Club with its main objective of promotion of golf has been at the forefront of training youngsters for years now. The Junior Training Programme has been the key initiative to help juniors of various age groups, both boys and girls, to achieve excellence in golf. This effort has been ably supported by a group of leading coaches who have dedicated their time and knowledge for this programme. Each year the training programme culminates with an Annual Golf Tournament and winners are awarded for their efforts. Many leading Indian golfers at the National and International level are products of this Junior Training Programme eg. Daniel Chopra, Manav Jaini, Shiv Kapur, Rashid Khan, Honey Baisoya, Kapil Kumar, Pratap Atwal, Gurbani Singh, Gauri Monga, Seher Atwal and Mehar Atwal, to name a few. programme run by the Club and shall be free of cost for the youngsters. The Club envisages running the following activities (free of cost), as part of the above goals: Select 20 young golfers in different age groups who have achieved a level of excellence and are rank holders in the IGU merit list and then work with them through the year. Those who do not reach the desired levels of excellence will be replaced by new golfers inducted on the basis of their merit/potential. The selected golfers would be coached on all aspects to including physical fi tness and mental strength training to achieve the levels of excellence required. purchase of technology-based equipment and the staff connected with this effort including the course maintenance staff etc. will all be a part of this initiative and would be funded from the CSR funds received. This activity would be supervised by a dedicated group of Members nominated by the General Committee and the accounts of this activity would be maintained and audited separately to ensure full transparency. As a fi rst step DGC has now become a Section 8 not-for-profi t company and has created an activity to be run as a CSR Implementing Agency which can start by receiving support from Corporates through their CSR contributions. TRAINING FOR EXCELLENCE The Strive for Excellence program is being run by the club as a separate, transparent and dedicated activity and will cover provision of all training free of cost to the selected players. The selection will be purely merit-based in age groups varying from 8-18 years, open to all who show the requisite level of excellence in the game and more so to the meritorious youngsters belonging to the economically weaker sections of society. To ensure that the level of training is of top-most standard, the facilities at the Club are being upgraded at the Driving Range, Chipping and Putting areas. Technology-based equipment is being purchased and set up so that training can be imparted in a proper and scientifi c manner. Top rung professional coaches recognized by the IGU will be associated with the programme to train the youngsters. The entire cost of training shall be borne by the 30 The focus would be to include golfers belonging to weaker sections of society and facilitate their progress by providing access to not only playing facilities and coaching but also bearing their travel expenses for tournaments held in different parts of the country. GOLF CLINICS Run Golf Clinics for 10 days every month through the year to initiate youngsters into the game. These would be open to all strata with no restrictions. Children in the age group of 8-18 years shall be taught the basics of the game free of charge for 10 days Monday to Friday over a period of two weeks. Tournaments would be conducted periodically to test the youngsters. The upgradation of the driving range, chipping and putting areas, GolfPlus Junior November-December 2018 opportunities, to participate and compete at the highest levels in their divisions. In case, they are able to achieve the required level, the opportunity to represent the country may also come their way. All donors will be duly acknowledged on a display board and through other mediums at the Delhi Golf Club. Your donations can be part of your company’s CSR budget. All expenditure and accounting for the CSR activities run by the Club will be audited very closely by the CSR Team and Committee. Accounts will be shared in the Annual Report to ensure complete transparency.
