In a coaching career that spans more
than 25 years, Gary Gilchrist has been
responsible for recruiting, training and
developing more professional, amateur and
junior golfers than any other coach in the
world. His system of training applies to
golfers of all ages and abilities.
At the training facilities at Mission Inn
Resort, he and his team incorporate a
holistic training environment for juniors,
amateurs, and professionals through
technical, mental, fi tness and on-course
strategy training.
GolfPlus get to interact with the Pro’s
and Star of the Gary Gilchrist Golf
Academy Sharmila, Tvesha Mallik and
Saaniya Sharma. The trio always seen
together on the golf Course.
GPJ: How old were you when you
started playing golf?
SN– I was 12 years old
TM – I started playing golf when I was 12
years of age
SS – I was 17 when I started playing golf

GPJ: Who introduced you to the game
of golf?
SN - My mom introduced me to the game
of golf
TM - My dad initiated me to play golf
SS - My dad introduced me to golf
GPJ: What is your typical day like? How
much do you train?
SN – In a day I do 6 hours golf, 2 hours
Gym. My day ends with Dinner, Sleep and
Repeat.
TM - Almost the same as Sharmila
SS – I Practice and play every day. Work
out/ Yoga, and meditate. I also coach along
with other co curricular activities.
GPJ: How do you stay calm and focused
when shots aren’t going your way?
SN- Follow my post shot routine, game
plan and swing, thought one shot at a time.
TM - Focus on the swing thought that I am
working on , switch off in between Shots.
SS - Stick to the process: Pre-shot and Post-
shot routine. Play in the present and smile
and breathe. Chant silently.
GPJ: How do you stay motivated?
SN - That winning feeling, my coach, my
mom, my support team and watching Tiger
play.
TM- Wanting to be the best I can be.
Watching the greats and wanting to
compete with them.
SS - My goals and knowing that there’s
a long way to go. Wanting to reach my
potential inspired by the comebacks people
have had after an injury.
GPJ: What advise can you give to junior
golfers?
SN- The world is your oyster. Follow your
dreams. Stay determined. Hard work beats
talent any day. Focus on the process, enjoy
the grind and journey getting there. Most
importantly surround yourself with like-
minded people - by people who make you
want to step it up, who inspire you and have
a great support team.
TM- Stay focused on your goals. Don’t
compare yourself to others and don’t rush
the process, Enjoy it. Everyone has their
own timeline.

SS- Golf is as close as you can get to the
game called life. Living in the present,
enjoying the process, being honest,
not being too obsessed with the results
and things that are not in your control,
accepting the results and working patiently
towards your goals knowing you are on our
own timelines.
GPJ: Tell us about your life outside of
golf?
SS- Spending time with my mom and
Friends. Recovery. Occasional holidays for
a break to switch off.
TM - Spending time with my family and
Friends. Recovery. Occasional holidays for
a break to switch off.
SS - Spending time with my family and
friends. Doing co-curricular activities and
cultivating new hobbies and I occasionally
go to ashrams for meditation for touching
base with my spiritual side as well.
Traveling, going for treks and adventure
activities.
