Putting
THE PENDULUM SWING
APPLIED WITH PROPER RHYTHM
Putting is a very important part
of playing the game and crucial to
being able to score well. Excellent
putting skills can save a round from
being a total disaster. Putting is
also one of the mechanically easiest
things to develop when learning to
play the game. This is because the
putting stroke consists of a one piece
machine; the triangle created by the
hands, arms and shoulders while
gripping the putter. This triangle
remains intact throughout the putting
stroke. It is important to note here
that the triangle of the putting stroke
very closely resembles the beginning
of every other swing – including the
full swing.
Once the basic technique is developed
into a repeating mechanism, putting
can become very personal in that the
industry has provided many different
styles of putters to meet whatever
the preference of the player. Then
the player also has options in how to
grip the putter in order to create the
most consistent stroke. The most
correct way to develop a putting
style that works for you is the one
that gets the ball in the hole, provided
the triangle is not disturbed.
