Junior Golf Tournaments?
AJ: I started playing junior golf

GPJ: Who prompted you to take up
golf out of all the other sports?
VS: My father and to some extent Mr.
Himmat Singh Rai. When I was 8 years
old I took regular cricket coaching. In
2015 a relative suggested my father that
I should play an individual sport as there
is less administrative interference and
more scope to success on the basis of my
talent. The very next day we were on the
golf course using my father’s golf set.
GPJ: How do you manage your time
between golf and studies?
VS: It is really dif¿ cult managing
coaching both for golf and ¿ tness for
3-4 hours in a day. However my school-
Banyan Tree School has been extremely
cooperative in this regard.

GPJ: What has been the role of IGU?
AJ: IGU tournaments gave me a set path
to improve my game. You are competing
with best of the talents in the country and
consequently you have to work very hard
to stay in contention. Also, IGU insures
that all the Junior Tournaments are played
strictly by Rules which goes a long way
for the Junior Golfers in their ultimate
goal of becoming professional golfers.
GPJ: What are your future plans?
AJ: I want to move step by step and see
myself playing amateur tournaments in
the next two years. I would assess and
plan my game accordingly. My ultimate
goal is not only to play the Masters but
win an Olympic gold for India in Golf.

free hand exercises especially for legs,
core muscle, forearms and shoulder.
On weekends I also go for running for
stamina building.

GPJ: Fitness is really important.
Tell us about your day-to-day ¿ tness
regime.
VS: As I believe Fitness is the key to
excel. As a child this is the last thing
we would do as a routine. I take ¿ tness
classes 3 days a week and thereafter
follow it up with on my own for rest of
the days. Every day before going to play
I have an intensive warm up schedule of
half an hour.
