| HITCHING UP WITH MAX TAYLOR A TENT AND A BUSTED RADIATOR A year or two ago, my family and I were all set to to hit the road for a Christmas holiday. All that was left to do was to hitch up. But before I did, I wanted to check the fluid levels of my 4WD’s engine. The oil was fine. The coolant was lower than normal. I quickly spotted why. The top tank of the radiator had split. I could make green fluid ooze out just by pressing the tank with a finger. The family holiday was suddenly looking unlikely. I had a couple of choices: tow the camper and risk major engine damage, or stay at home – this was two days after Christmas and no workshops would be open until early in the New Year. But, then, a third option presented. We could take the family tent. This would involve loading up my wife’s station wagon and me borrowing my mother’s car just to fit all the gear we’d need, but it would be better than staying home. Right? In this special issue – a compilation of some of our reviews from throughout this year – I hope you find your perfect rig, whether it’s an offroad camper such as the Track Trailer Tvan 5, or the attractive Regal Condamine 650X caravan. I don't mind tenting but nothing beats the comfort of a caravan. Am I right? gorv.com.au [email protected]
