| RV MAIL LETTERS FROM THE ROAD FREE AS A BIRD We are planning an RV trip around Australia. My wife would like to take a pet canary with her. I tell her I suspect we would have problems at some state borders. Any suggestions? Glenn Lee Via email G’day Glenn. Not being a bird owner, you had me stumped so I checked www.interstatequarantine. org.au and as you’d expect, each state has different rules for what can be brought across their border. Your best bet is to visit that website and download Australian Interstate Quarantine: A Traveller’s Guide. – Ed RS TATE AU ST RA LI AN IN TE QUARANTINE GU IDE A TRAVE LLE R’S YIN G. PE NA LTI ES AP MISSING THE MARK I was heartened when reading your reply to Bill Ramsay (GoRV #7) that you had received the message regarding addressing the lighter end of the caravan market and small to medium tow vehicles, but oh so disappointed to see that the message obviously got lost somewhere. A small to medium tow vehicle (e.g., no bigger than a Subaru Forester or similar) is likely to be restricted to towing 1600kg and with a towball limit of 160kg, well short of the specs for Dreamseeker F1 and Royal Flair PD Series that you had suggested might fit the bill. An occasional article on the smaller end of the market would be greatly appreciated, and provide a more inclusive overview for a greater range of readers. Mike Hill  Via email Thanks Mike, message received! – Ed COMMS QUERY Thank you for providing such a good range of articles focussed on the RV lifestyle. We are trying to research communications for protection during remote travel. Satphones are very expensive, EPIRBs are not always the best option and Spot seems a good idea. Are there any others? I would love to see this researched by you. With a free giveaway comp for readers? Gill Kidd Via email Hi Gill, thanks for writing in. Yes, satphones are expensive but I think they’re cheap insurance. If you can’t afford to buy one outright, there’s the option of renting one for the duration of your remote- area travels. We’ll give your suggestion some thought… and, yes, perhaps even look at a giveaway! – Ed If you have an opinion or thought about the RV lifestyle, or about this digital magazine, we’d like to hear it!
