RV FEATURE
The exception to this is in Western Australia where , if you are driving on a freeway , it is illegal to drive more than 20km / h below the posted speed limit unless there is traffic congestion or adverse road conditions . This only applies to freeways .
SPEED LIMITS
The speed limits for drivers towing a trailer are not consistent across all states and territories .
In New South Wales , if the combined weight of your vehicle ( car and trailer ) exceeds 4500kg , the maximum speed you can do is 100km / h . In Western Australia , the speed limit for any vehicle towing a trailer , regardless of weight , is 100km / h .
In all other states territories , you may drive with a trailer up to the posted speed limit .
Failing to know the rules could be a costly exercise .
FINAL WORD
Ultimately , ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it . The same goes for the road rules . We may be one country , but we still have slight differences between the various states and territories and it is up to you , as the driver of the vehicle , to ensure you are familiar with the road rules in the state in which you intend to travel .
You must also ensure you know any rules that specifically apply to towing . Failure to do so can be a costly exercise .
