TRUE COLOURS

DESPITE BEING A COMPACT OFFROADER , THE EVEREST CAMO OFFERS LOADS OF SENSIBLE LIVING SPACE FOR THE FAMILY .

When I heard that Everest Caravans had developed an 18-footer ( internal ) caravan , I wasted no time hitching it up . As I discovered , this van was unique and more than a little intriguing .
Camouflage is about blending in . But in the case of the Everest Camo , its cladding was a standout . In fact , the camouflage design found on its ribbed aluminium was the first of its kind in Australia , according to Everest .
The Camo offered sensible external storage options and Everest had gone to some effort to sensibly protect some of the underbody components – essential for any offroad caravan . The 6in A-frame ran back to the 2.9- tonne OzTrekker independent coil suspension , with 6in main chassis rails on top .
Our Camo weighed 2380kg Tare and had an ATM of 2900kg , giving it a generous payload capacity of 520kg . It had an unladen ball weight of 260kg – an ATM upgrade to 3000kg is available , however .
At the rear were jerry can holders and a reversing camera , while on the nearside Everest had fitted an attractive stainless steel slide-out kitchen .
The real beauty of the Camo , however , was on the inside . Its 18ft interior length had not prevented Everest from fitting it out as a true family caravan – with a split bathroom !
The secret was the east-west bed tucked into the front of the rig . Its orientation had freed up a lot of space for other important living features .
