Is your caravan/tow vehicle combination
legal? CaravanMate is a new app that
makes the calculations for you.
It was designed by a caravanner, Barrie Fox,
who wrote the app upon realising how
confusing it could be to ‘get it right’.
CaravanMate explains the weight
terminology – ATM, GTM, etc. – and contains
links to Redbook to source vehicle
information, such as Gross Vehicle Mass and
maximum towing capacity.
Once the user has entered the weights of the
vehicle and van, the app will perform some
calculations and tell the user if their caravan/
vehicle combination conforms or exceeds the
weight limits.
It also allows the user to enter the actual
(loaded) weight of vehicle and van and will
warn you if you are over any weight limits.
A range of checklists, the ability to save your
favourite caravan parks, and access to the
nearest dump points, is also included.
Costing $5.99, it seems like a bargain if it
means your rig will always be legal.
