IT’S GO TIME There are plenty of traction aids on the market, but Go Treads have a difference – they fold up to a compact package measuring 300x230x90mm (LxWxH), making them particularly useful for caravanners, who typically have to make the most of every spare nook and cranny. They’d probably even fit under the driver’s seat. The US-made Go Treads are made of “flexible, strong polypropylene copolymer with special additives to give this durable plastic even greater toughness”, according to the company. Designed in 1975, Go Treads fold out – unlike rival Maxtrax or Tred Pro boards, which have a fixed length. A major benefit of Go Treads is that because they are made of individual segments, they can act as caravan levellers – let’s face it, we’ve all parked on uneven ground only to find ourselves searching for a board to help level up the van. Just fold the Go Tread to the desired height and drive up onto it. I used a Go Tread for this purpose on our Easter getaway and can say that, for this purpose, they work well. Go Treads, however, can’t replicate some of the functions of a fixed-length traction board – 4WDers use fixed boards to bridge small gullies and aid their approach or departure when traversing rock steps and the like. I see no reason why a Go Tread, however, couldn’t be used as a jacking board should you need to jack-up your vehicle in mud or sand. That said, as a device to affect a vehicle recovery, while doubling as a vehicle levelling board, Go Treads have a lot to offer. Oh, apparently they even float. Weighing only 2kg each, and folding to such a compact size, they would be a fine addition to any caravan’s tunnel boot. What’s more, you could free up some space by passing on your levelling chocks to someone else – you probably won’t need them anymore! We’re referring to the new Ledlenser MH11 head torch, which can be controlled by the ‘Ledlenser Connect’ app. This allows users to power the light remotely and personalise each function of the torch by creating various profiles. 58 \ A good quality head torch is essential kit around the campsite. But we’re not sure if they need Bluetooth. In any event, the MH11 is the flagship of the Ledlenser range, with a ‘Boost’ mode that offers up to 1000 lumens.
