RV FEATURE
SELF SUFFICIENCY
Self-sufficiency is the name of the game. Most
RVs are setup to offer some off-grid camping
potential.
Grey water management is gaining increasing
momentum, with more and more campsites
encouraging travellers to collect their grey water
rather than just showering on a mat and leaving a
muddy pool for the next camper. The next time you
go shopping for a rubber shower mat, consider
purchasing a large silicone bucket instead. Then
you can take grey water out of the campground
or at least nearby to refresh a tree or two.
Whether you prefer bush-camping or caravan
parks may depend on your own specific camping
style and your desire to mix closely with other
36 \
travellers. Even the most avid bush-campers will
stay in caravan parks at some stage or another to
stock up on food, fuel, enjoy a decent shower, or
maybe even to wash some clothes.
For us, we’ll always take bush-camping over
caravan parks and national parks over so-called
‘free’ campsites. In our experience, it’s better
paying a few dollars to stay somewhere with
genuine camping appeal as opposed to a no-
cost, bland camping experience.
