RV FEATURE
When a friend retired recently after
many years of corporate life, he told me
how his wife ‘arced up’ when he started
re-organising her world. “I married you
for better or worse,” she said. “But that
didn’t include 24/7!”
Travelling by caravan with your partner is
similar, but potentially worse. After managing a
negotiated personal distance for years, you’re
suddenly together day and night in either your
tow car or the caravan you’re towing. Here
are eight tips on how to maintain harmony
with your travelling partner when long-haul
caravanning…
1. PACKING
Make a list – (okay – boring!) – and divide the
duties into topic headings and responsibilities,
so you know who’s to ‘blame’ when you find
out that something’s missing, as inevitably it
will be!
2. NAVIGATING
With few exceptions, I think we all agree
that men and women have different spatial
awareness, which often clash when navigating.
My advice to maintain harmony as a driver is to
do your own; use a navigation aid like a Hema
Explorer, but give your partner a role in the
process, even if you ignore it! In other words,
know where you’re going and leave it to them
to spot the visual clues (signs, caravan parks,
etc.) when you’re almost there!
