RV REVIEW RATINGS E TRU Y VAN IL M A F FIT AND FINISH LAYOUT INNOVATION VERDICT STEP OUTSIDE Our review Marathon was built on a 4in SupaGal chassis with tandem-axle Roller-Rocker suspension. Underneath, you’ll find two gal-protected water tanks mounted forward of the axles. Given the size of the van, I thought its unladen weight of 2040kg was very reasonable. The payload capacity of 450kg should be adequate, too. I hauled the van on a 100km test route (without load- levellers) incorporating open highway, city streets and gravel roads. While it buffeted slightly in strong cross winds, the van remained planted to the road. Externally, it has all of the features you’d 34 gorv.com.au HITS expect for its price point, such as a fold-down nearside picnic table and a roll-out awning. Storage-wise, the van has a right-through, gal-lined tunnel boot. SUMMING UP Overall, at $56,000 I think the 21ft Family Marathon offers decent value for money. It is a genuine family van that can be towed by the Prados and Pajeros of the world. Is it the most glamorous caravan, or the most extensively appointed? Well, that's not really the point. It is a good, honest rig for a reasonable price. I suspect it would be a faithful family companion on short or long getaways. • Family-friendly layout, including separate bathroom • Option of two or three bunks • Relatively light weight – could be towed by a Pajero or Prado MISSES • I’d like a stoneguard for the A-frame tap • I’d centralise all switches in cupboard above rangehood COMPLETE SPECS READ FULL STORY VISIT WEBSITE
