RV TRAVEL kept on a lead for the sake of the emus and kangaroos that stroll or hop through the property as if they own it. FAMILY PROPERTY The land has been owned by the family for more than 60 years and was used for farming merino sheep, dairy cows and chickens for many years. Nowadays, the Honeymans graze sheep so they ask campers to close the gate when they go out. When I went out to get some pictures to go with this story, I received a very pleasant surprise: I found four caravans grouped together and their owners were all Australian Caravan Club members from South Australia and, of course, I'd met most of them before at club functions. Naturally, we sat around and yarned for a quite a while but I did manage to take a few good photos before I left! The Old Man Emu bush camp is very popular for families – at $15 a night, it's fantastic value! When they arrive, visitors are given a leaflet about the park that includes fire emergency information, a brochure with maps of Halls Gap, Stawell and the Grampians National Park, and a comprehensive guide to the Grampians. There is also a very informative visitor's centre in Halls Gap. 34 gorv.com.au FAST FACTS WHERE The Old Man Emu bush stay is at 3971 Ararat-Halls Gap Road, Halls Gap, Vic.
